In a conversation with a colleague recently, we discussed the difference between needing and wanting. Needs are those things that are essential and important and, in truth, our needs are quite simple-food, shelter, water. With those basics met, we have everything we “need” to survive.

Wants, on the other hand, are desires or wishes for something beyond our needs. For most people, they want fresh, delicious food or a well-built, beautiful home, which is only the beginning of our desires. Without a doubt, everyone is capable of developing a long list of desires they would like to see manifest in their lives.

What does all this have to do with Leadership Coaching? Leadership coaches help people achieve their desires by supporting the development of each person’s capacity to easily and effortlessly create the life they want; for leadership is the ability to create change in your life, your community and your world. Key to success for anyone in the coaching process is to understand the difference between needs and wants and how to tap into the flow and creativity that is unleashed when we focus on the freedom of desires instead of the weight of needs.

For anyone considering entering into a coaching relationship, first examine your motivations-do you want to improve your life? Your skills? Your happiness and satisfaction? Or do you feel the need to do something different because what you are doing now is not working? Has someone told you, you “need” help? Without exception, those who begin the coaching process with a sincere desire to improve and expand their lives will have much more success than someone who starts the coaching process feeling the need and pressure to do something different.

Next, look for a coach who doesn’t want to be needed-or need to be needed! Often, conscious or not, coaches like the idea of helping other people and feel their worth through that process. For a truly effective coaching relationship to develop, it is important to work with a coach that wants you to rediscover and own the qualities and skills you possess to lead the life you want. For such coaches, success is viewed when clients move beyond the regular coaching relationship to less frequent meetings based on sustaining focus on leadership efficacy and supporting the achievement of ever-expanding goals.

Finally, find a coach that is applying the principles he or she is teaching to his or her own life. In other words, are they walking the talk? Using the Leadership Model of Change ask your potential coach these questions:

  • Who are you?
  • What change do you want to create in the world?
  • How do you live your life to support this work?
  • What leadership skills are you currently developing?
  • How do you build teams in your life?
  • What real world results are you currently experiencing?
  • How do you reflect on your results and continue the change process?

By engaging a potential coach in these questions, you will quickly discover if this is the person you want to work with.

If you are feeling a sincere desire to create change in your life and are uncertain how to proceed, you may want to consider working with a leadership coach. Through the process of identifying someone who will work with you to increase your impact on the world, you will hone your understanding of what this process means to you and the results that you want to achieve. The first step is always the most difficult on the road to creating change in our lives, so if this is a sincere desire for you-do something today to turn this desire into a reality.

Step-by-step our lives change. For most people, these changes occur without our direct participation and guidance. Leaders learn how to take charge of their lives and to work with the flow of life to get where they want to go. Needing change doesn’t make it happen-wanting things to be different and then acting on that desire does. So what are you waiting for? The world needs your leadership-now!

It can be quite overwhelming when you realise just how many different fat burner products are available. All of which will no doubt state that they are the ‘ones that work’. But how do you know which fat burners to choose, and more importantly, how do you know which product is going to work for you? This article will address the issue of the different types of fat burners, and how you use this information to reach your particular goal.

Fat Burners: Thermogenics

Thermogenic means to produce heat through metabolic stimulation, and this is how thermogenic fat burners produce their affects. They aim to increase the metabolic rate of the individual taking them, subsequently increasing the caloric expenditure and burning more fat, particularly at rest. Thermogenics are most commonly used for people striving for fast weight loss, and they will often contain a controversial substance known as ephedrine; a substance that is very similar to amphetamine and methamphetamine and works by increasing noradrenaline production and androgenic receptor activity. Other common substances found in thermogenic fat burners are caffeine, synephrine, HCL, yohimbe and green tea.

There are some common side effects associated with thermogenics; increased alertness, increased energy levels, increased concentration and a fast heart rate; most of which are as a result of the stimulants present. If you know you’re sensitive to stimulants, or have a heart condition, then it would be advised to seek stimulant free thermogenic fat burners. It is also advised that stimulant based products should be cycled, and you should give your body a ‘rest’ from them to reduce the stresses that they put on the central nervous system

So in short, thermogenic fat burners will be effective at increasing your metabolic rate and increasing energy levels, however they must be taken with prior knowledge of your ability to handle stimulants.

Fat Burners: Thyroid Regulating

The thyroid gland is located in the front part of the neck (below the voice box) and is an important hormonal gland that produces regulatory effects on the body’s metabolism. The thyroid produces two hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and tetraiodothyronine aka thyroxine (T4). Hypothyroidism is a condition that affects individuals by not producing enough thyroid hormones to keep their metabolism working at a required rate. The resulting symptoms, amongst others, are a slowed metabolism, fat gain and feelings of fatigue.

Thyroid regulating fat burners supply the substances normally produced by the thyroid, and seek to rectify the issue of a slowed metabolism. They are specialist fat burners that seek to increase the metabolic rate and maintain an effective thyroid gland. However if an individual suffers from a severely deficient thyroid gland then they should seek medical advice before taking any dose of thyroid regulating fat burners.

Fat Burners: Carb Blockers

Carb Blockers work on the basis that in order to lose fat you need to be in a negative calorie balance. They help achieve this by blocking the absorption of the carbohydrate that is common in many of our foods. Since you don’t absorb the carbohydrate, it is simply passed out of the body without being consumed as additional calories. Carb Blocker Fat Burners work by inhibiting certain enzymes that target the digestion of carboydrates that are present in the food we eat. Since carbohydrate rich foods often pose the largest problem to people trying to lose fat, these fat burners become quite efficient at solving this problem. As stated above, fat loss works as a function of total calories consumed, when you block a large percentage of these calories from ever being absorbed, you have an effective method of increasing fat loss.

It must be advised however that, although these fat burners are effective at increasing weight loss, blocking the absorption of such an important macronutrient is not always advised. After all much of being a healthy human being involves consuming a healthy balanced diet. If you were to block the absorption of some key nutrients (even though this is an effective way of increasing fat loss) it can easily produce a very negative effect on the body.

Fat Burners: Fat Blockers

As you may have worked out, Fat Blocker Fat burners work in a very similar way to Carb Blockers. They seek t prevent the digestion and absorption of the fat that is present in the food you eat. In doing so, they will be cutting out a significant amount of calories that you consume in your diet (as fat tends to contain more calories per gram). Present in Fat Blocker Fat Burners is Chitosan, a substance that binds to fat before it has been absorbed stored in the body.

Chitosan is a controversial substance that has been shown to be effective at reducing levels of body fat. There is however a concern that Chitosan could impair the absorption of other essential substances in the body, for instance, Carotenoids, which the body later converts into Vitamin A.
Again then, these fat burners are likely to be effective at burning fat at the expense of being potentially detrimental to other processes occurring in your body.

Fat Burners: Appetite Suppressors

Many people involved in high intensity and high frequency exercise regimes will feel hungry almost all the time. As Arnold Schwarzenegger was quoted saying, ‘For me, life is continuously being hungry’. You are not alone with this feeling, many people have to deal with this problem when trying to lose weight, and it’s not always a physiological issue. There are also psychological issues at play here, and it may even be that you have gotten used to eating a large amount of food; it takes your body a while to adapt.

Appetite Suppressers work by decreasing your appetite, thus reducing the amount of calories you consume throughout the day and subsequently increasing weigh loss. It’s a perfectly logical method for burning fat, and if taken correctly, a perfectly effective one. One of the more common ingredients found in Appetite Suppressant Fat Burners is Hoodia, a plant native to Africa. It is rumoured that Hoodia has been used on long hunting expeditions in Africa where food was scarce, and produced massively favourable affects when it cam to appetite suppression.

If you suffer from having a large appetite and feel this may well be the reason you’re not shifting the fat then these fat burners may well be for you. It is however important to note that cutting your daily calorie intake to less than 20% below your maintenance level is ill advised and can result in the opposite effects to correct fat loss.

Fat Burners: Cortisol Blockers

Cortisol, a steroidal glucocorticoid, is released in the body when an individual is undergoing a stressful period or event. Its production can be a dieter’s nightmare as it indicates that the body is in an overly stressed state (potentially over trained) and leads to an accumulation of fat metabolism and storage in the body.

Corisol can have a massive influence on how your body deals with fat storage and usage, and the chances are that it is playing a role in inhibiting fat loss if you fit the bill of an overly stressed individual who may be over training.

A Cortisol Blocker will help prevent the negative effects of cortisol on fat loss, thus reducing the chances of you storing the fat rather than burning it as fuel. These often contain many ingredients that you will have heard of. Amongst them are, chromium, green tea, caffeine, yerba mate, guarana, l-carnitie, and CLA.

Fat Burners: Conclusion

So now you know a little but more about the different types of fat burners, you can come to a more informed decision as to which should benefit you the most. After all, the more specific your goal is, the more chance you have of reaching it; so instead of thinking ‘I need to burn fat’, instead think, ‘ I need to suppress my appetite using an Appetite Suppressant’, or ‘I need to increase my energy expenditure using a Thermogenic’.

As with windows, doors come in many different sizes and materials. Examples of materials are wood, metal, fiberglass, glass, acrylic and composite.

Styles include solid core, hollow core, raised panel, flat panel, louvered, bifold, bypass, accordion, pocket, hinged, tracked, fire, pet, garage, patio, “French”, “Dutch”, double and so forth.

Each door has specification requirements for its use. With their many components and functions, doors are a bit more complicated than windows but some of the information is similar.

Don’t get distracted by door descriptions. When inspecting you will be looking for the physical condition and operation of the door and also making sure that the proper door is being used.

Requirements for interior doors are less restrictive than for exterior doors. Exterior doors may be used on the interior of the building but an interior door should not be used for an exterior application.

In other words, a hollow core door should not be used for an exterior exit door. This is not only for security reasons but also hollow core doors do not provide adequate insulating properties and resistance to weathering.

In addition, a solid core fire rated door is required between the living space and the attached garage. I will elaborate more on the fire door requirements below.

Begin your inspection at the front door, which is usually the first door encountered when entering the home.

Look at the front door. Is there anything that jumps out at you?

Is it a solid core exterior door?

How do you determine if it is a solid core door?

Knock on the face of the door with your knuckles to hear if it sounds solid. If you are not sure, try comparing the sound made by knocking on an interior hollow core bypass closet door. The solid core door will create a dull noise and the hollow core door will sound like a wooden drum.

As you approach the door, look at the way it hangs in the jamb (the trim material that makes up the frame surrounding the door).

Check the reveal (the space between the door and the frame or jamb).

Is the gap in the reveal relatively even? An eighth of an inch variance in this area is common. Any more than that could be due to loose hinges, deterioration or poor installation.

Next, inspect the condition of the door face or surface. Is it deteriorated, scratched or damaged in any way? Hollow core doors and even solid core doors with a veneer skin may delaminate when subjected to severe weather conditions.

Are there any cracks in the door edge around the latch?

Front exterior wood doors often have panels. Check to see if any of the panels are cracked or damaged.

Front exterior doors may also have glazing (glass) panels. Check to see if any of the glazing is cracked, broken or has lost its seal. Is the glass tempered?

Next, open the door, straddle the front edge of the door and grab hold of the knobs. Gently lift up using your legs (NOT your back or arms) to determine if the doorknob is tight and the hinges are well secured to the jamb. If you notice a lot of play or movement at the hinge area, it may simply mean that the screws are loose. Tightening them with the proper screwdriver may resolve this symptom. Sometimes the hinge screws are fine but the hinge pin may be worn. In that case the hinge may need to be replaced.

Once you have made certain the hinges are secure recheck the reveal around the door. Securing the hinges may correct some if not the entire reveal problem. If the door did not latch properly before, that problem may also be corrected by tightening the hinges.

Next, check to see if the door will actually latch.

You would be amazed how many times I encountered doors that did not latch. The homeowners were often surprised and commented, “We never close that door.” I replied, “Well I can certainly understand that but the new owners might want it to latch for some reason.

Doors that do not latch could indicate a number of issues discussed below. Make a note at this point if the door does not latch.

Does the door stick in the frame at any point, drag on the floor covering or bind at the striker plate of the latch? The striker plate is the metal plate screwed into the doorjamb where the latch catches to secure the door. Does the door swing open or close on its own?

Is there any unusual noise or squeaks when the door is opened, closed or latched?

Do the knobs and door lock operate properly or do they need some lubrication or possible adjustments? Sometimes just tightening the screws of the hardware will eliminate problems.

I often noticed that when the doorknob screws were positioned top to bottom instead of side to side, the privacy lock would not work properly. Check the orientation of the doorknob screws. They should be parallel with the floor.

Check to see if the deadbolt latches are able to fully extend into the mortise hole in the jamb. If the deadbolt latch does not fully extend, the bolt can be pushed back into the unlocked position.

Try this if you have access to a deadbolt lock. With the door open, engage the deadbolt part way. Stop before you hear the “click” of the lock mechanism. Push on the bolt. You will actually be able to push the bolt back into the door with your finger. Push on the bolt after you hear the “click.” The bolt will not move.

If you are not able to hear or feel the “click” when locking the deadbolt, the lock is not properly engaged. The mortise hole in the jamb is not deep enough to allow the bolt to travel far enough to fully engage. It is not secure.

Home inspectors will report on the presence of double deadbolt locks. Some will report them as a hazard. Double deadbolts are those locks that can only be opened from the outside or the inside with a key. My reports used to say this:

FYI: A locked double deadbolt lock could be a hazard in the event of an emergency if the key is not available.

I recommend double deadbolt locks be replaced before the home inspector arrives.

Check the striker plates in the jamb. If the striker plates are loose, damaged or missing, repair or replace them.

Check the jamb itself. Is it split, damaged, deteriorated or water stained? Make a note on any of these conditions.

Home inspectors and termite contractors carefully investigate water stains found around doorframes. Water intrusion is a serious issue particularly when addressing walls and exterior siding.

Exterior doors will need to be weather-stripped. There should not be any light passing in around the door from the exterior.

Pay particular attention to the sweep at the bottom of the door. Weather-stripping is inexpensive and easy to install. The bottom sweep can usually be adjusted downward to sweep the threshold properly.

Is there a doorstopper preventing the knob from hitting the wall?

As you move into other areas of the building, check the condition and operation of any bifold, bypass and accordion closet doors. Along with the considerations mentioned above, they should slide in the tracks and operate with ease without coming off the track or dragging the floor covering. Broken mirrors on bypass closet doors should be replaced.

When checking any interior or exterior double doors, determine if the pins of the secondary door can be properly secured at the top and bottom. Do they operate and engage smoothly?

Check patio doors and screen doors for smooth operation and proper locking. Home inspectors will report missing or damaged screen doors.

Patio doors often have window coverings. Many home inspectors do not report on window coverings but you should check and note their condition to be sure they operate properly. Your Realtor will usually not recommend replacing window coverings unless the home shows badly. The buyers will probably want to select their own.

On many of my inspections the buyers were present. I could hear them discussing how they would redecorate the building to reflect their own personality. New floor and window coverings were almost always on the list for replacement. Realtors often suggest cleaning or removing these items but not replacing them.

The glazing in patio doors should be tempered. Check for lost dual pane seals in dual pane patio doors and the fixed glazing.

Fire doors are an important consideration. Such doors are located between the living space and an attached garage. They may also be located at the stairway to the basement or any other area that may contain flammable materials, a water heater or furnace.

Fire doors should have an operable automatic closer that will cause the door to self close and latch when it is released. If the fire door has an automatic closer but does not latch when it is released, the closer should be adjusted or replaced. A fire door gap gauge tool is good to have when doing this inspection. Sometimes the floor covering can obstruct the proper operation of the closer causing the door to drag.

Fire doors are installed to suppress fire from entering into a living space but only for a limited amount of time. Any modifications to these doors create a possible hazard, such as a pet door.

Pet doors installed in a fire door compromises its fire suppression function. I realize we need to help our pets get in and out of our buildings for obvious reasons. I have pets too, but you need to know the home inspector will write up a fire door that has a pet door installed.

Some home inspectors will write up a fire door that has a door stop installed because it overrides the purpose and proper function of the door.

The swing direction of a door is also VERY IMPORTANT. The code requires a 36″ landing if a door swings out over a step.

A door should not swing out over a step as a person could trip and fall.

This error is common when homeowner alterations are conducted.

Keep in mind that we are primarily concerned with the appearance and operation of the doors. Interior hollow core doors with holes larger than a nail or screw should probably be replaced.

Exterior doorjambs that are deteriorated at the threshold may also have to be replaced. Probing with an awl or screwdriver in these areas will help you determine if deterioration is present.

Check all the remaining doors in the house using the same procedures stated above. Again, do not be discouraged when you find an item. That is the reason for the work you are doing.

If you notice a lot of play or movement at the door hinge area, it may mean that the screws are loose. If so, tighten them with a screwdriver.

A screw that will not tighten could mean that it is stripped. A longer screw may be required to secure the hinge into the jamb. Be sure to use a screw with the proper bevel and head size or it could interfere with the hinges ability to close properly.

Doors that do not latch could indicate a number of issues.

A very common occurrence is a door that will latch during one part of the year or season and not during another. This is an indication of normal changes in the shape of the building during temperature or humidity variations.

Plumb bob The design of the striker plate will usually account for these variations unless the plate was not installed in the proper position during construction.

The door may be warped or the doorframe may be out of plumb (a plumb bob or a plummet is a weight with a pointed tip on the bottom that is suspended from a string and used as a vertical reference line. This instrument has been used since the time of the ancient Egyptians by bricklayers, masons and carpenters to ensure that their constructions are “plumb”, or perfectly upright. The plumb bob is still used to this day but the builders level has replaced this ancient tool in most construction applications.)

Doors that bind, stick, open or close by themselves may do so for the same reason the doors do not latch. The hinges might be loose, the striker plate may need to be adjusted or the doorjamb may need to be repositioned.

A qualified handyman should be able to adjust or repair a door or jamb that is out of alignment or not plumb. You could also hire a licensed contractor to refit the door.

Although a bit more complicated, secondary doors that do not secure properly are usually adjustable provided the internal hardware is operating properly.

Knobs and locks that do not operate properly may require lubrication. Dry graphite is recommended rather than oil based lubricants. Oil will accelerate the problem by attracting more dirt. A locksmith can help with fussy knobs and locks.

Install any missing or damaged striker plates.

Jambs and Frame

Cracks in the jamb and around the hinges can be filled with putty or caulking if not too badly damaged. Repainting the trim will be optional, depending on your particular situation and realtor’s recommendation.

The door surface itself is often difficult to repair if badly damaged or worn. Cracks in the door edge can be filled with putty or caulking if not too badly damaged.

If the door drags the floor covering or binds in the casement frame, it may have to be shaved to allow for more clearance. This can happen when new thicker flooring materials like hardwood, tile or carpet are installed.

If simple repairs can bring a door back to serviceability that’s good. However, if the door is damaged so badly that repairs would cost nearly as much as a new door, replace it. This is particularly true of a front door.

As an itinerant stump grinder for these past dozen years, I have experienced a variety of stump removal scenarios. I haven’t written this with the intention to impress, nor has it been written as the “be all to end all stump grinding method”. I felt there to be a need for a written description of what I do, amongst the plethora of visual and pictorial information out there. Perhaps this humble piece will inspire other stump grinders to make an effort with their written descriptions of how they grind away stumps with their machinery. If this collective information, was compiled and indexed, it may prove to be a valued written source of reference for all future stump grinders. I am fortunate to be able to draw upon my own unique mix of experiences (not necessarily connected with this subject), complemented with an ability to put this into writing — although how it is interpreted, remains to be seen. This is a detailed description of how I remove a tree stump with a professional stump grinding machine.

There will be deviations from this main topic, also describing my reasons, methodology, and events which led to the present action taken. Unlike many of my stump grinding peers who have relied upon YouTube videos to demonstrate stump grinding, nobody has yet—as far as I am aware— written a definitive procedural description on the salient points of this operation, for placement in the open domain. It is understood there are many other views with many other variations in procedure, reflected by variations of equipment types. My intention of basing my procedural description with a modified Carlton 2300 stump grinder, is to keep it simple, without all the “bells and whistles” of modern stump grinding machines. However, this old (1997) model has been updated with a Lombardini diesel engine to give it performance approaching modern machines. I have added a number of my own “bells and whistles” in the form of various gauges which I feel are important to gain a general understanding of machine performance. Further, old fashioned finger type cutter teeth are used. This is a personal preference based on cost alone. I also recognise the OEM improvements made to modern stump grinders, and do not intend for these writings to diminish those improvements in any conceivable way. Again I re-emphasise the use of an old model Carlton 2300 is to keep it simple in spite of the below listed changes to the machine. My wish, and hope is that some of this will spark additional thoughts and improvements to increased safety, and productivity in a potentially hazardous operation. Stump grinding is inherently a hazardous operation to people, pets, and property. The scope of this procedural description assumes a familiarity with all necessary safety equipment, and will only make occasional reference to such equipment within the context of my operational method and procedure. I will begin with a list of modifications made to this old Carlton 2300 including reasons:

  • brackets for securing a 2.5 mtr. horizontal, flood light mast at the machine’s top, and along its length. When working any distance away from base, It isn’t cost effective to complete a job on a second return to site if it is possible to complete within one journey. Winter evenings at the solstice here in England, begins at about 16:00. Working a few extra hours in the dark, will make a considerable cost savings. This prompted installation of a flood light attachment. to the machine.
  • pivoted brackets mounted in place of mud guards for securing rubber screens suspended from steel arms. Some manufacturers of stump grinders may now provide these screens. None were available at the time, so I made them up. After experiencing a broken window, as a result of stones being projected diagonally from the cutter wheel, such a screening provision became very immediate. I never operate without my mud guard mounted screens.
  • pivoted bracket assembly for securing a vertical mast of a three meter parasol used for all lengthy stump grinding jobs—rain or shine. A comfortable stump grinder, is a productive stump grinder.
  • bracket for securing a proper oil pressure gauge—not an idiot light! Most modern stump grinders have automatic switches to shut down the engine when oil pressure is lost. If this machine had one–I would still install an oil pressure gauge. An idiot light will not sense a reduction in oil pressure as when the engine warms up from cold, or when a possible leak may occur. Further, it can indicate approximate engine temperature once experience is gained with normal pressure/temperature comparisons.
  • bracket for securing an engine oil temperature gauge. This was a temporary installation because the oil dip stick had to be substituted with a sensor bulb immersed in the sump oil to gain accurate data. With a clear cool air intake, my engine was running at 90 C. That is quite hot and proves the point how important it is to keep cool air passages and air intakes clear and clean. I have nearly 4000 run hours on my diesel engine with NO black or white exhaust smoke!
  • bracket securing hydraulic oil temperature gauge. This is also a current temporary installation while data is collected and can be more accurately referenced against the pressure gauge. A permanent installation with a combination oil level and temperature indicator will be installed at a later date.
  • A sheet metal screen separating the operator from hydraulic hoses was installed just behind the hydraulics control levers. Most modern models have enclosures for hydraulic hosing, and must meet CE certification.
  • welded angle, supports for cutter wheel’s hinged (guard) shroud. When this guard is down in its operational position, it nestles between two welded angles giving it lateral support. The addition of these angled supports was found to be necessary when the guard makes contact with a portion of uncut stump which remained beyond the swing limit of the cutter wheel.
  • brackets to secure a permanent electric winch above steering wheels. A twelve volt winch has been recognised as an essential on-board equipment. Occasions have required a winch to assist machine manoeuvrability, to fix a static position on a slope where driving the machine’s own stake into the ground is impossible. and to extract the machine from difficult terrain.
  • installation of lockable key operated emergency stop switch. CE compliance requires this switch.
  • installation of a fixed means to secure the cutter wheel’s hinged shroud in the down or operational position. CE compliance requires this.
  • central point greasing hub located within a cutout on the machine’s decking. Armored, sheathed, flexibile, hydraulic grade pipe, is connected to four underside (difficult to reach) grease nipples
  • fine mesh insect screen installed over engine cooling intake fan opening, complemented with a steel grid support fixed within air intake shroud. This eliminated the need to frequently remove th engine’s cool air ducting to the finned cylinders, for cleaning away debris caught between cylinder cooling fins. This was a frequent and essential task to prevent “hot spots” and to maintain efficient engine cooling for such a hot running air cooled engine. A water cooled engine has distinct advantages for operating in such a dirty environment.
  • A thick neoprene gasket placed beneath the chain drive cover. This gasket is a great improvement with keeping out contamination, and extending chain life. ( Modern stump grinders have hydraulic motor hub drives for each wheel. Chain breakage was always a risk, with the possibility of a runaway machine. That can’t happen with hydraulic motors at the drive wheels.)
  • complete sheet metal encasement of ‘V’ belt drive. Required for CE compliance.
  • Improved fixing/support bracket for shallow screen located directly behind cutter wheel. This bracket was made in one piece of steel stretching the length of the rubber screen. It provides additional screen support, and is quicker /easier to remove for screen replacement due to wear.
  • heavy duty spiral banding was wrapped around all exposed hydraulic hoses. A CE requirement to protect the operator from a hydraulic hose burst
  • Installation of thermocouples to the bearings for determining their average normal running temperature and to indicate excessive bearing play yet to be installed.

Transporting A Stump Grinder:

There are two ways of getting your stumpgriner down the road to a site; either by loading it onto a trailer, onto a truck, or into a van. I chose a VW medium wheel base, high top, turbo-diesel, panel van for the following reasons, and a description of how the stump grinder is stowed:

  • VW vans represent dependability for me. I’m onto my third change of van (all purchased second hand) and have never had a breakdown that wasn’t my fault.
  • the trailer option seemed to be hassle, with access down narrow driveways, turning radii too narrow, and a great deal of unnecessary monoeuvreing
  • I dont have a large enough lock up garage, which would require outside storage for the stump grinder and trailer making it subject to theft.
  • my van is dedicated to storing the stump grinder where It stays onboard.
  • I do all of my servicing and repairs with the stumpgrinder onboard. I carry all necessary tooling to perform minor field repairs e.g. changing a drive chain to the drive axle, or wedge belts for the cutter drive.
  • the stump grinder and tools are secure in the van with the vans additional security, eg. immobiliser, alarm, wheel clamp, and additional door and frame strengthening which has already prevented someone trying to lever the base of the rear doors upwards in an attempt to gain access.
  • I keep a set of steel ramps stowed onboard. These are also useful for gaining access in gardens with steps, or at a higher level.
  • a steel wire cable is installed between opposite anchor points next to the steel bulkhead separating driver from loadbay. At the cable’s centre is fixed a steel ring, through which the stump grinder’s stake enters, when the machine is stowed. This cable has two purposes. First use is when uploading the grinder. By extending its tongue to reach the steel ring fixed at the centre of the wire cable, then passing the machine’s stake through the steel ring, allows the machine to pull itself into position when retracting the tongue. This entry method is preferred over reliance on the grinders wheel traction which is minimised on wet days, and also because its wheels must climb over, and on top of screening stored on the vans floor. Second use is as a secure fixing point while the van is in transit.
  • within the rear of the loadbay, is a steel saddle fixed to the floor. ( looks like an upside down double “TT” ) It is bolted through the van’s floor, and through square plates pulling against the chassis underside. The machine’s cutter wheel nestles between two verticle plates. A pin passes through both verticle plates and a cutter wheel bolt hole, where the tertiary pockets use to be fixed. ( they didn’t do any work, so use was made of their intended bolt holes )
  • the machine is firmly stowed using this method. Indeed, it stayed in place, with my van on its side in a drainage ditch! ( the ultimate test )

Downloading the Stump Grinder By The Numbers

  1. open rear doors, unsecure ramps from their stowed position, slid out ramps, and fix them to door sill with pins
  2. open sliding side door, start the stump grinders engine, retract tongue slightly to pull against steel cable thus allowing release of tension on cutter wheel stowage pin, for its removal, and raise the cutter wheel away from its floor saddle.
  3. engage axle drive or “free wheel” valve, reverse machine slightly, just enough to allow release of tension on steel cable allowing extraction of machine’s “T” stake from the steel ring fixed to the cable.
  4. pin the machine’s stake to its normal stowed position, and drive stump grinder down the ramps.

Determining Safe Access

  • after stopping the grinders engine (remove key), do a “walk-through” along the machine’s intended route to the stumps. Depending on machine’s width (owing to extension dual wheels fitted) determine an easy unobstructed access.

How snow removal is an art?
Snow removal is an art as it commences with paraphernalia that indicates that the experts should be equipped with right type of boots, gloves and shovels. It has been perceived in the past that those who have been extricating for over a period of time tend to have sore feet and as a result, they have blisters. They have to make sure that the boots go right up to their knees so that they are water proof and provide a good grip.

When the winter arrives and there is much unnecessary snow on places such as roads, pavements, sidewalks and driveways, a very convenient and useful machine is accessible that helps one to get rid of snow. This type of equipment is generally called snow blower or snow thrower. Nonetheless, there is a minor differentiation between a snow blower and snow thrower. A snow blower is a two-stage machine for snow removal and on the other hand, a snow thrower is single-stage equipment that is used for the purpose of removing the snow.

Snow removal companies perform all kinds of activities and know how to handle sheets of ice and other risks as well. Nothing can prove to be worse than end up paying a hefty amount for a snow removal service and then getting stuck with a contractor that doesn’t turn up to perform the required job. In order to avoid such a situation, it is feasible to choose a company that is highly recognized and is reliable.

Probably the hardest picture to set up and pull off is the group family photograph. These pictures only really work when everyone is on the same page, looking at the camera and smiling at the same time. Synchronizing by getting everyone to say “cheese” is the typical way to get everyone smiling. But it doesn’t always work.

Here are some things to think about when trying to snap that lovely family portrait to make everyone happy:

Put the Group at Ease – It is essential that all participants in the photo are at ease and comfortable with each other as well as the San Diego Family photographer. If the photographer also happens to be a family member then being at ease should not be a problem. With no strangers in the midst, relaxing before the camera is not a problem.

Move into Scene – Don’t be afraid to move into the scene, cutting out the background and focusing just on the people. Crop off the top of the head of the taller people, in order to emphasize a connection among family members. Allow the drama of kinship and love to play out before the camera. Let the family members interact before snapping the picture. Saying “cheese” while always listed as one of the most important family photography tips, is not always a good one, and will make people go rigid and become less candid, so sit them down and let them get comfortable. The good shot will follow as you watch.

Blur the Background – Blurring out the background makes the people aspect more dramatic. It makes the family the focus of attention, because, after all, the family unit is what you’re shooting.

Candid within the Group – There is always someone in the family at a gathering who doesn’t want to sit for a picture. Today’s small compact cameras make it simple to get candid shots without have to pose everyone. Keep the camera in your pocket as you work the room. Find your shot and compose it and shoot quickly. It takes practice, but grab-shots do come out well with a little thought and focus.

Taking Multiple Shots – When trying to capture everyone in one group, the only real successful way to do it is to take many shots, and quickly. Shooting in rapid bursts of three or four shots at a time will get the good shot for which you’re looking. The first shot is usually a throwaway shot. However, the second or third will probably be the keeper. Shoot some shots before everyone is ready. Some of the best pictures are of the actual organizing to sit part of the activity.

Timing is Everything – Choosing your timing carefully will make or break the shot. However, true timing can only be learned with practice. Another of the suggestions that tops the list of family photography tips is that the quicker you learn to compose or to know what you want in composition the better will be your timing. Try to work taking of the picture within the natural flow of events, when the family is naturally together rather than artificially posed making them more rigid.

Lighting – No matter what type of photography, lighting is probably the most important element. In most instances a small flash will be sufficient. However, bigger family groups may require more lighting. Taking the photograph outside in natural light makes for an easier, less stressful shot.

Taking Control – It is paramount for the photographer to maintain control of the situation and communication is the key. Keep talking to your subjects making them understand what you want to do and need for them to do to make for a happy situation. If you have a really large group to photograph, then use a tripod and have someone act as your assistant.

Smile – Finally, there is nothing worse than a grumpy old photographer, so smile. That will put everyone else who has to take part, at ease. Have fun, act like you’re enjoying the process. It’s okay to crack a joke or two in order to get everyone to loosen up. And don’t be afraid to be creative. Think outside the box. The group can be a group without sitting down next to one another with another row standing at attention behind. Emphasize other items of “family-ness.” Play with it. Enjoy!

Automated gate systems have been around for decades, but only recently the industry has started to grow, due to the fact that they are now cheaper, widely spread and easy to purchase worldwide. In the past, people purchased automatic gate systems for two reasons. The first reason is the fact that they offer a sense of security, keeping unwanted people and vehicles out of the courtyard. The second reason is the fact that their elegant, extravagant look allow the owner o make a statement of wealth and luxury. Now, the timeless elegance of an automatic gate system is accessible to anyone, the only problem being choosing the right model to suit your needs and taste.

In this article, we are going to talk about a particular type of slide gate, the solar gate. Solar powered gates are becoming more and more popular, due to the fact that electricity is really expensive and it’s more convenient to avoid running power to the mounted gate motor. If you are planning to invest in a solar slide gate, there are a few things you should know. Because it’s not a small investment, we are going to give you some guidelines to help you make the best decisions.

Although a solar gate may seem to be the ideal solution, you must know that the applicability of this type of system is different from case to case, so it is highly recommended to get the advice of a specialist before investing in such a system. Other elements you should keep in mind when shopping for a gate motor is the size of the courtyard, the available space (for example, dual slide gates require less swing distance behind them) and the number of times the gate will be opened and closed. From this point of view, it is important to distinguish the difference between a gate purchased for residential use and one purchased for commercial use.

Obviously, the motor for a commercial use slide gate has to be more powerful (and more expensive), because the gate will be opened and closed more often than a residential slide. The good news is that solar gate motors are available worldwide at affordable prices. Since the industry is growing, there are a lot of companies that manufacture solar slide gate motors and other slide motor components. Some of the most famous worldwide producers of gate motors are Eagle, GTO, Liftmaster, Sentex, NICE and BFT.

Finally, if you are wondering how much a solar gate system or motor would cost, you should know that, similar to other types of gate motors, the price ranges according to the size, brand and power of the motor. You should expect to spend from $300 to $1000 for a solar slide gate motor. Once again, we must underline the importance of having an experienced person to give you advice before buying a solar slide gate motor. Fortunately, most slide gate resellers, including online security equipment websites have staffed personnel that can offer you valuable information about the type of motor for your specific application and requirements.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a therapy that combines different treatment methods to treat people with Borderline Personality Disorder. This disorder basically means that a person is incapable of regulating or controlling his or her emotions. They are unable to respond to stressful situations and it interferes with every day life. Dialectical Behavior Therapy has also been successful in treating people with other mood disorders, such as suicidal tendencies or those that self-injure themselves. It was introduced in 1991 and has been the subject of numerous studies. This technique has been used with success since its introduction.

The aspects that make up this therapy include cognitive therapy, behavioral therapy, and the concept of mindfulness. Cognitive Therapy aims to recognize and change the patients outlook and their distorted thoughts that relate to their specific disorder. Behavior Therapy teaches different techniques that can be used to stop or change the behavior that a patient is seeking treatment for. Mindfulness is a concept that basically teaches patients to deal with the present moment. It is a calming technique that teaches the patient to stay in the present moment, and not to worry about the past or the future.

Patients usually have a private session with a therapist on a weekly basis. Each week, the patient provides an example of how the specific disorder interfered with his or her life and or well-being. The therapist and patient then discuss the issue and the reasons why the patient had a certain negative reaction. They also discuss behavioral changing techniques so that the patient can use them in everyday life to change certain behaviors.

Along with weekly private sessions, patients also have one group session a week to discuss issues and gain insight and feedback about their progress. This is beneficial because it allows patients to interact with other people in a controlled manner. They also discuss different skills that can be learned in order to combat the current negative thoughts and behaviors, such as distraction or relaxation techniques.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy also helps patients maximize their feelings of self respect. It relies on the relationship between the therapist and the patient to get successful results. This therapy involves the implementation of goals and the therapist is in contact with the patient in between sessions. The patient learns why he feels the way he does, learns to recognize the negative behavior, and learns how to change the behavior using different techniques.

Learn more about dialectical behavior therapy from a world-class mental health treatment facility that offers it as a treatment. DBT therapy Orange County is a behavioral-oriented therapy and can be very rewarding as part of a mental health treatment program.

If you are seeing water in your basement, it can come from a variety of sources. It’s important to determine the source and know if it is a one-time event or re-occurring. It is an aggravating problem to have as it can ruin personal property, walls and flooring, particularly if your basement is finished.

A leaky pipe could be the culprit and if your basement is finished, you can’t see the pipes. Cutting a chunk of drywall out may have to be done to check the pipe behind it. Sometimes, it’s just a guess as to where to cut so you may have to try this more than once.

Surface water could be seeping into your basement excavation. If the water is coming in only in a specific spot on an outside wall, it could be surface water from a lack of proper drainage. Make sure your gutters and downspouts aren’t clogged and that you have enough of them to move the water. The downspouts should extend 10 feet or more away from your house, without getting to close to your neighbor’s house of course. Another cause of excessive surface water could be that there are surfaces sloping toward your house. The ground around your house, and paved areas, should slope away from the house to keep the water from settling and pooling by your house. If you have an irrigation system, ensure it is not leaking or discharging too much water in one area.

If you are not seeing any sources of surface water, it could be under ground water. When water levels in the soil rise up above the level of the basement floor, water can seep into the basement through any cracks or holes because of the pressure, called hydrostatic pressure. Excess ground water can be caused by an lengthy rain storm, an underground spring or even the city’s storm sewer system, if a home’s drain system is connected. A perimeter drain might have to be installed to avoid under ground water seepage.

Water has also been known to come through floor drains in the basement as well. If that’s the case, it could be water backing up from the municipal sanitary sewer system. This would likely be a problem for older homes only as older plans combined sanitary and storm sewer systems. During a heavy rain, those systems could get overwhelmed which means water and sewage backing up. If this could apply to you, check into backflow preventers that can prevent water from coming through your drains.

To stay on the safe side, you might want to consult with a professional about preventing water in the basement. But if you do have the problem, whatever the source or cause of the water, contact either a plumber or a water loss mitigation company to address the issue and dry up the area. Then, contact your insurance agent to check on your homeowner’s coverage before filing a claim.

There is no doubt the carpet inhibit dust and a myriad of indoor allergens like house dust mites, mould, and fungi. That’s why carpet is not popular among homes with children as parents are afraid their children will breathe in dirty air particles and lead to respiratory illness like asthma.

Although the carpet can be a potential health hazard, it doesn’t mean you cannot have in your office or home at all. It can after all beautify the interior design with its colourful design and texture.

Clean carpet lessen allergies

A regularly cleaned and maintained carpet or rug not only looks more presentable, smells better, most importantly, a clean carpet is considered healthier than poorly cared carpet. This is because a well-maintained carpet contains less dust, less airborne dirt particles and definitely less micro organism that are feared to trigger allergy ailments.

So who says that you shouldn’t have one in your home or office?

Nowadays, there are hundreds of carpet cleaning D-I-Y kits and carpet cleaning service providers in the market. While we are spoilt for choice, it is very important to choose the right cleaning method / product to clean your carpet to avoid damaging it after cleaning.

Some of the common problems faced with carpet cleaning:

  • It seems to get dirty again soon after cleaning was just completed.
  • It smells musky after carpet dries from cleaning treatment.
  • Carpet colour runs during cleaning process.
  • Long down time as carpet needs to take hours or days to dry after cleaning.

Why dry carpet cleaning over wet cleaning?

Development of dry carpet cleaning technology or should be more appropriately known as “very low moisture” carpet cleaning – has been initiated to provide another cleaning solution from the existing wet carpet cleaning methods – promises to give more effective cleaning performance, minus the inconvenience of long drying time and potential risk of damaging the carpet.

There are 2 processes in dry carpet cleaning:

Dry compound carpet cleaning

Biodegradable cleaning compound, or moistured micro sponges, will be spread evenly over the carpet and brushed into carpet piles using machines that has inbuilt counter rotating brushes. These sponges will absorb dirt in the carpet and the soiled compounds will be removed by the machine or vacuumed at the end of the process.

Polymers in the cleaning product used in this process encapsulate or “crystalise” dirt particles into dry residue after which will be removed at the end of the process.

Putting all the technical jargons aside, in layman expectation, you should expect the following benefits when you get your carpet cleaned by a well carried out dry carpet cleaning service provider:

  • A thoroughly deep cleaned carpet will result in less occurrence of carpet resoiling, normally accomplished by machine that use contra rotating brush to lift up and remove the embedded dirt particles in the carpet pile.
  • Carpet remains dry or slightly damp during the whole treatment as minimal liquid is used in the process. No drying time leads to no down time and minimize inconvenience caused due to cleaning process.
  • No down time equals to more productivity, which results in saving time and money.
  • Promise not to shrink the carpet or cause the carpet colour to decolourise.
  • Minimal application of fluid and chemical in the carpet would not lead to excessive exposure to chemical residue after cleaning and having bad smell due to insufficient drying after a wet cleaning treatment.
  • For those who prefer using environmental friendly products, you would be pleased to know that most dry carpet cleaning technologies use biodegradable compound as the main cleaning product.

However, dry carpet cleaning has often been misunderstood as a cleaning method suitable only for light soiling carpet condition or for periodic maintenance purpose as dry cleaning system was known to clean only the carpet surface and not deep carpet cleaning.

Over recent years, with further developments and research, dry carpet cleaning systems has now come with a range of stain removal products that will be applied on heavily soiled carpet or stubborn stains during pre-cleaning treatment. These stain removal products effectively break down different types of stains like food, beverage, grease, glue, etc, before the application of dry compound or encapsulating crystals on the carpet.

While dry carpet cleaning is gaining more popularity because of its technological advantages and benefits, it is always better to check with your carpet manufacturer or retailer for their recommended cleaning method or product, just to be on the safe side.

Creating takes the concepts and perception of the imagination and molds and manipulates them into being able to be built or formed into something the imagination conceived. What does it mean to imagine, to create, to build? The owner of LEGO, Godtfred Kirk Christiansen had envisioned LEGO toys to be educational as well as being fun and imaginative. Godtfred wanted children to expand their imagination as far as possible and use that imagination as tools for learning, creating, and building. The Star Wars LEGO toys have captured that imaginative and creative spirit.

Creativity from the beginning
This creativity of LEGO started in the very beginning. LEGO toys have been around since 1934. The company’s name was originally Ole Kirk Christiansen, a wooden toy company, started in 1916 in Billund Denmark where the main LEGO company still exists today. In 1933 Godtfred Christian was wanting to change the name and was thinking of the name Legio, meaning the “legion of toys.” In 1934 the decision was made to change it to LEGO from the Dutch leg godt meaning “play well,” which was also later discovered to mean “I assemble” or “I put together” in Latin. These meanings in themselves, help described Godtfred’s envision to imagine, create, and build while having fun!

Imagination to Reality
In 1947 the plastic molded pieces were introduced into the LEGO company’s line. However not being well received, lead the search to develop a new design. So a new brick design was first released in a set known as the “Town Plan” in 1955. However, new concepts in the development of new plastics were also being pursued, which in 1956 (only one year later), established the present material and design of the LEGO bricks of today. Although the “Town Plan” set was complete with bricks and pieces to build an entire town with roads, buildings, parks etc…, the vehicles in the sets had non-movable wheels. In 1961 the company expanded from Denmark to the United States and another one of Godtfred’s imaginations became a reality, by the development of the first LEGO wheels, made in the United States in this same year.

Into the Star Wars Galaxy
It wasn’t until 1999 however that LEGO obtained the rights to use the “Star Wars” brand name to produce the very first LEGO Star Wars set. The LEGO Star Wars line was the first of these designs being created from a major motion picture. The Star Wars theme is only one of many themes that LEGO has produced. However, this opened up a whole universe of new and creative ideas to be developed by a magnitude of very innovative people at LEGO. LEGO has captured the hearts of children and adults alike by opening the possibilities of creating a variety of characters, creatures, spacecrafts and planet themes from the Star Wars movie saga. The same way that Lucas Arts had the imagination to create Star Wars movie saga, that same creative drive inspired the LEGO group to be able bring the Star Wars creations to life in the eyes of children.

Universal Building
Your imagination can be out of this world when you build and play with LEGO toys. LEGO has allowed the possibilities, of bringing into the home, the ability for anyone with an imagination and creative spirit to build almost anything they want. Each brick that you put together with others, can become part of something new and exciting. By joining many pieces together anything can be assembled into hundreds of creative possibilities. The opportunities are endless when putting pieces together to make anything that your mind can imagine. The popularity in recent years of inflatable party toys has been phenomenal. It used to be that the professional bouncy houses were only found at carnivals and other major production events. But soon I began to see them popping up at local birthday parties and even for sale to the average consumer at retail stores.

I think the escalating interest in them has taken off because it’s a way to let off steam and energy in a fun and relatively safe environment. This was evident to me when I attended an elementary school birthday party last summer. When it got late and the party died down for the children, the adults (who perhaps had a beer or two throughout the day) proceeded to bounce away on the kids’ jumpy house when we were alone.

The popularity stems from the fact that something inflatable is generally more comfortable and safer than hard plastic, steel or wood which ultimately allows you to go crazy. Add some water and you have a recipe for another inflatable flavor of fun, the inflatable water slide rentals new orleans.

I have only found places that you can rent this now a very popular item, but I am sure that like the bouncy houses they will be available in the retail market soon. The dry versions of the inflatable slides are available in retail stores, but they are in the same category as the jump/bounce houses. Please note that the dry slides are not to be used as water slides unless it is specifically designed for both wet and dry sliding.

Now, there are a few cautions that need to be addressed before you get your heart set on an inflatable water slide for your next fiesta. Get the full details on the setup from your party rental supplier. They usually recommend that you set the slide in the middle of the lawn and let the water run on the grass. Sounds simple enough but if you do not have proper drainage on your lawn, this could lead to a muddy disaster. Usually, areas with drainage systems properly set up are on hard-surfaced areas like driveways, or concrete patio areas, both of which are not really suitable for water slides as you generally want to stay away from hard slippery surfaces with wet, running, and excited children (and adults!).
Also, when the party rental company comes to pack up the water slide, you may find extra charges included I you did not empty out the water properly. Or as I mentioned before, if they come back to pick up a rental that is now 2 feet under a mud bog, there will be extra charges.

Once you have the full detail on what the water slide rental entails, and if you have the proper space to set one up, the possibilities for kids’ parties and summer adult parties are endless. After our 5-year old daughter’s birthday party, we kept the 25-foot inflatable water slide and used it for our neighbor’s Hawaiian Luau fiesta the following weekend for a pig roasting blowout.

If you are on the internet looking for Pest Control in Mesa tips and techniques, it is wise to first acquaint yourself with some of the top myths in the industry.

These myths can cause a lot of harm by either making you think you don’t really have a problem, when you do, or that you can handle it on your own when you (sometimes) cannot.

Thanks to the internet and social media, there’s even more harmful pest control advice than ever before. To help put some of these misconceptions to rest, here are the 6 most common pest control myths.

Myth #1 – You would see pests if you had a pest problem

This is a very nefarious myth and knowing it is a myth probably frightens most people reading this as surely they do not see many pests running around their homes.

If they are there, where are they?

Well, pests are great at hiding, which is part of the reason they usually go completely unnoticed. The worst part is that the pests that are hard to see or spot tend to be the toughest to eliminate. Read more about how to spot the signs of pests. When you do see the signs, it’s time to take action immediately.

Myth #2 – Bed bugs only live in dirty homes

When most of us envision bed bugs, we picture them crawling about an unsanitary home, day and night. This, in fact, is not always the case, as the pests can and will inhabit any space so long as they can find warmth and an available source of food.

Whether it’s a sparkling-clean, five-star hotel or a dirty apartment building, the bugs are not picky about their lodging.

Myth #3 – Pet cats are effective at rodent pest control

This does not hold true of well-fed cats. With enough access to good food, cats often lose their motivation to hunt. Cats that are well taken care of tend to just play around with the mice if they catch them – if they catch them at all.

Myth #4 – Ultrasonic repellents are effective

Ultrasonic devices are designed to use ultra-high frequency sound waves to drive pests away. It seems like a great idea, but the problem is that manufacturers of these products have yet to support their claims with scientific evidence.

Myth #5 – Clean homes do not have pests.

It’s easier to understand with bed bugs. Since they are quite small and their food source is blood, a cluttered, dirty house is not relevant.

With the theme of “food source available” we can also extend this to other pests, like cockroaches, ants, and rats. The fact of the matter is: they can survive in spotlessly clean homes, just as long as they have any kind of food source!

The only reason a dirty household would be more susceptible to a pest infestation would be due to clutter hiding early warning signs of a pest control problem. Therefore, in the dirty versus clean debate, the most important point is to eliminate all possible food sources.

Myth #6 – You can usually get rid of pests on your own.

Knowing when to call in the professionals is essential. Hardware stores can be a good place to start for simple pest control issues, but in many cases, these retail remedies do not work and can even make the problem worse.

If you notice that your pest problem is getting worse, it’s time to call a pest control company.

Hemp has been around for centuries and was primarily cultivated in ancient China but has also been grown in early India, Mesopotamia, Persia, and Egypt. In America, hemp was grown by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin had a hemp paper mill which the Declaration of Independence was written on. Hemp is one of the most historic natural materials. Cultivated for well over 12,000 thousand years, humans have benefited from this pliable substance in a variety of ways. Hemp was embraced by our ancestors and is categorized as an extremely useful renewable resource. Hemp was often utilized for the sails and rope of ships which made it a mandatory crop for early American colonies and settlements even eventually finding its way into the US Army and US Department of Agriculture’s “Hemp for Victory” campaign which greatly aided in World War 2 efforts. Hemp’s uses are so vast it was experimented with by Henry Ford when inventing the modern automobile and now plays a role in foreign carmaker BMW’s attempt to make cars recyclable and more environmentally friendly. Hemp even finds its way into some of the birdseed you find at the pet stores. Consisting of long fibers it is a strong, viable, light, and healthy commodity that has value across a multitude of industries. Regardless if its construction, food, fashion, fuel, or anyone of the numerous categories hemp falls under, one thing is for certain and that is it does not get as much credit as it deserves. As valuable as hemp has been to our past it is even more important to our future. Hemp is one of the greatest raw foods the planet has ever seen. Hemp oil is unmatched in quality and provides health benefits that other raw foods simply cannot. In this article, we will review a few of the reasons why hemp is one of the most powerful raw foods we have available.

Considered a “perfect food” for humans due to it’s ideal 3:1 Linoleic acid (LA-Omega 6) to Alpha-Linolenic acid (LNA-Omega 3) ratio hemp oil provides the body with an ideal balance of essential fatty acids (EFA’s). With the ability to provide every vital EFA for the entirety of human life there is no other raw food or oil that can match hemp’s efficiency and value in regards to this aspect of health. Low in saturated fatty acids hemp is the only oil that does not cause acid deficiencies through continual and focused use within an appropriate diet. Also conducive to frozen storage over long periods of time, unlike other oils, it is not susceptible to rapid nutrient deterioration and does not require preservatives for increased shelf life. If manufactured and processed right everything about hemp is natural and from the earth which is received well by our bodies. Some of the health benefits of hemp oil include but are not limited to more vibrant skin, increased endurance, inflammation reduction, water retention, better blood pressure, immune system improvement, pain reduction, weight loss and much more. It can also help with diseases like arthritis, cancer and those relating to the heart. In addition to the essential fatty acids mentioned above hemp oil delivers essential amino acids, the rare protein globule edestin and gamma-linolenic acid (GLA-Omega 6) and stearidonic acid (SDA-Omega 3) all of which are crucial to the proper functioning of the body. Hemp is a truly wondrous raw food that should never be ignored. If you are currently not aware of all the benefits of hemp and hemp seed oil it is certainly a subject that you would be wise to research more thoroughly. Raw food enthusiasts often overlook its value due to some of the miss-informed stigmas attached to the product.

Hemp seeds and hemp seed oil is in not illegal in the United States or most any other countries for that matter. Hemp seeds are 35% protein, 47% fat, and 12% carbohydrates. Hempseeds are packed full of protein, which is helpful to build your body’s muscles, tendons, organs, hair, nails, etc. This is especially good for raw, vegan, and vegetarian diets. Hemp seeds contain all the essential amino acids and essential fatty acids that are necessary to sustain life. It is increasingly used as a dietary option by those who understand raw food and even by those who are simply looking for a way to live healthier. Going through years of improper propaganda and labeled wrongly by governments hemp and hemp seed oil are still relatively unknown health foods. To experienced doctors or medical researcher’s hemp is one of the most fantastic substances for our body both inside and out. It is important to note that like most raw foods hemp is best not heated to high temperatures if its redeeming qualities are expected to be kept. Now available in almost every grocery store and health food store hemp seed oil is slowly becoming harder to ignore. As one of the best types of oils ever known to humankind, it is both amazing and sad that hemp does not get more press. Even among some of the most experienced raw food specialists it is still not regarded as a plausible diet option and simply put, this must change. If you are not including hemp in your daily routine then you are missing out on an available resource that is unparalleled in the oil market.

Nutty and tasty in flavor and easily used in salad dressings, soups, smoothies and even main dishes hemp is a long lost ingredient that needs to be revitalized. For the average human, only 50-75 grams are needed per day to reap the associative profits of the nutrients. For those in therapy, the doses can reach as high as 150 grams.

For most of us, hemp is still not a part of our diet. If you do plan to incorporate hemp into your diet it is recommended to consult a doctor, a raw food expert, or an experienced nutritionist. As with everything new product you introduce to your diet it is best to take your time and to conduct the appropriate background check. If you do want to start adding hemp oil to your diet I have included a few safe and delicious recipes to help get you started.
